Jon Dyball, the designer behind Obi, discovered his love for fashion growing up in rural Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. While other kids played outside, Jon was learning to sew, creating his first garment at just eight years old under the guidance of his grandmother, who taught him the skills of sewing, pattern making, and cutting that still shape his work today. At 16 he moved to Auckland, working in a Ponsonby Road boutique where he gained valuable experience in commercial fashion design, before going on to create bridal and eveningwear for clients at just 17.
After eleven years at Working Style Menswear, where he developed a strong appreciation for premium fabrics and tailoring, Jon moved into womenswear, where he found the creative freedom that defines Obi today. His collections are inspired both by travel and by life in New Zealand, and are known for their quality fabrics, bold design, and expert craftsmanship, proudly creating high-end New Zealand fashion.
